The Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS) program of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) in the United States of America continues and expands the Institute's animal influenza surveillance program internationally and domestically and focuses on several high priority areas in influenza research.

The overall goal of this program is to provide the government of the U.S. with public health tools and strategies needed to control and lessen the impact of epidemic influenza and the increasing threat of pandemic influenza.

The Department of Virology of the Erasmus MC is part of the research team of the Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis (CRIP).
