Corine Geurts recieves Erasmus MC fellowship 2019

On the 4th of October at the yearly "Lof der Geneeskunde" in the Doelen, Corine Geurts van Kessel was awarded the Erasmus MC Fellowship 2019.

The coming years she will work on the immune response against rabies virus. "Up to present it is not understood why an efficient immune response is not being mounted upon RABV infection whereas innate immune cells will be exposed to the virus at the site of infection. The key objective of her research proposal will be to answer this question in (post-mortem) patient material and experimental models. She aims to identify the mechanism by which RABV suppresses the immune response and to determine whether this immune suppression can be reversed."
