Myriam Hunink

Dr. Hunink's main research interests are in the evaluation of management strategies for cardiovascular disease.

Myriam HuninkShe completed a BSc in applied mathematics and an MD degree at the University of Leiden and a PhD in health decision sciences at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After completing residency training in radiology in Amsterdam, she did subspecialty training in interventional and cardiovascular radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston followed by a research fellowship and Assistant Professorship in decision sciences at Harvard School of Public Health. Being awarded a prestigious PIONIER grant in the Netherlands enticed her to return to her home country and accept a position as Associate Professor at the University of Groningen. Currently she is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Radiology at the Erasmus university Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands and Adjunct Professor of Health Decision Sciences at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. She teaches and supervises students at both institutions.

Dr. Hunink directs the Assessment of Radiological Technology (ART) program and the division of Clinical Epidemiology at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. She is internationally known for her comparative (cost-) effectiveness studies of imaging for cardiovascular disease and is lead author on a textbook on decision modeling (Hunink & Glasziou: Decision making in health and medicine. Integrating evidence and values. Cambridge University Press). Furthermore, she is a past president of the Society for Medical Decision Making.

Dr. Hunink's research focuses on the assessment of diagnostic imaging and minimal invasive therapies, using techniques from clinical epidemiology, metaanalysis, decision modeling, and cost-effectiveness analysis. Her main interests are in the areas of cardiovascular disease, early diagnosis, prevention, lifestyle changes, mind-body medicine, and integrative medicine.
