Aniek de Rooij started her academic career studying medicine at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam in 2007.

Aniek de Rooij started her academic career studying medicine at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam in 2007.  After joining the NIHES master of science program in Clinical Epidemiology, she did research at the department of Psychiatric Epidemiology of professor Henning Tiemeier. During this period, she decided to also study music at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in 2014. In march 2015 she joined the research group "Music as Medicine" and is supervised by professor M.G. Myriam Hunink and professor J. J. Hans Jeekel.

Research
Her research focuses on the use of music in the reduction of pain, anxiety and distress, the effects of music on the immune system and the effects of rhythm, melody, harmony and timbre on the effectiveness of music as a therapy.
