Description: Drug interactions potentially can deprive patients from optimal therapy by changing plasma levels and thus drug exposure of certain drugs. My research is about investigating the influence of drug-drug interactions on the pharmacokinetics of anti-cancer agents and practical ways to manage these interactions. For example Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) show pH-dependent absorption (exposure decreases rapidly with increasing stomach pH). When erlotinib (a TKI used in lung cancer) is administered with a proton pump inhibitor the exposure decreases with 50%. When erlotinib was administered with coca-cola (an acidic beverage) erlotinib exposure increased with 40% so the interaction was nearly undone.
